Description
DNA Polymerase I synthesizes DNA in the 5′→3′ direction complementary to a template in the presence of a primer (DNA or RNA) and dNTPs as substrates. This enzyme has a molecular weight of approximately 109,000 and possesses both double-stranded specific 5′→3′ exonuclease activity and single-stranded specific 3′→5′ exonuclease activity. It can be used alongside DNase I for nick translation and with RNase H for second-strand cDNA synthesis.
